About Margaux

Margaux Bonzon, MA, LMFT (#107651)

In terms of creating and maintaining a healthier life, the difference between doing nothing and doing something is everything – no matter how small that something is.

I am a Swiss-American mental health counsellor (licensed in California, USA) and provide services to children, adolescents and adults under various formats including individual, family, and group therapy. I tailor services to the needs of my clients, in a holding environment that provides comfort and encourages progress.

In 2011, I graduated with a Bachelors in psychology from the University of British Columbia and in 2015 obtained a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California.

For over 6 years, I worked at non-profit agencies in Los Angeles and Compton providing therapy to children with severe behavioural issues and serious adverse childhood experiences. I became a rostered Child-Parent Psychotherapy provider and, in 2020, a fellow of the Napa Infant-Parent Mental Health Fellowship (UC Davis). As the supervisor of a mental health program for one of the largest Non Profit agencies in Los Angeles (Shields For Families), I trained dozens of mental health therapists and child development workers to provide the highest quality services to underserved populations who experienced trauma, developmental delays and mental illness.

Since moving back to Switzerland, I provide mental health counselling to children and adults through my private practice as well as through my work with Foundations For Learning. My clients seek help to deal with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioural issues, parenting issues, family conflict and more.

Throughout my childhood and adulthood, I’ve lived in several countries, including France, Switzerland, Spain, Canada and the US. This gives me a personal and professional understanding of the impact of transitions, the International School system, the Expat experience, and the Third Culture Kid experience.

My therapeutic approach is nonjudgmental, open, and supportive with a touch of humour. I believe clients are the experts of their own lives who invite me in to help guide and support them to meet their goals. I collaborate with them by holding up a mirror to reflect on their past and present and by providing tools and strategies to overcome obstacles and challenges. Together, we explore the way their experiences are shaped by their thoughts, perceptions, emotions, and behaviours to identify what no longer serves them and to reinforce what does. I find that healing occurs in the context of relationships and through our experiences with the world within and around us. I use a combination of approaches that is tailored to the needs and strengths of my clients. These include person-centered/humanistic, cognitive-behavioural, attachment-based, and strength-based.

I enjoy baking, hiking, and reading a good book with a hot cup of tea.

By contacting a counsellor you are taking a significant leap towards the change you seek. Congratulations!
